Max Factor: Fantasy Fire

So I have had Fantasy Fire for a while now and every time I have started to swatch it, I don't like the combination. I layered it over two coats of a shimmery purple with red undertones. You can see the red shimmer in it and over black you can see just the red/orange shimmer. Now, if you look at the bottle, that is what I want on the nail... blue/green/yellow/red, not just red shimmer. While it was quite stunning the way it sparkled, that didn't make up for the lack of color shifting.  Fantasy Fire is a super mini polish and as far as I know, only in the UK right now. If you were going to get a shifting top coat, I'd go with Shift Happens from Girly Bits (I also have January Morning from GB to show you as well). I'll try to layer FF over a blue or something but so far, not impressed at all.

  1. I'e seen it look amazing over Revlon Royal if you have it. I wore it over Barry M Indigo which has just enough blue in it to make the shift really pretty :)

  3. I think it's pretty, but the hype is a bit much. It's not THAT great! I like how you've matted it though x

  4. I luv your photo format! Have you tried layering over white or a light neutral? Whatever color you layer over (other than the suggested) can indeed neutralize or emphysize certain colors in a polish. I suppose figuring out what works is half the fun!

  5. I think it does need a blue to give you more. However my trials with it left me less than impressed. If it's a dupe for #230 it's hard to tell because #230 is so old now, it's base shade has changed. Also we need to remember when #230 came out there were not other things like it out there yet. Just look at how sought after SH Hidden Treasure was for so long - now it's not anything rare because the polish world has moved along. FF is good for what it is - a drugstore shimmer topper. But it's not a true color shift topper. Look to some new to come Transformers from Glitter Gal.
