Pure Ice: Magnetic Attraction- Electrify Me

Good news everyone! If you follow me on Facebook you'd see an update on my finger :) and that I started swatching again.. finally! I've had this for a while to post it's Pure Ice Magnetic Attraction in Electrify Me. Electrify Me is a great copper and bronze magnetic. I did two coats- first one to dry then a thick one to magnet. The magnets are a bit tricky at first, they're like a little tunnel you put over your nail. OVER your nail not your nail UNDER the magnet as that would cause a bad effect; once you have a magnet in place, you leave it be for a few seconds, you never want to move it across the nail. Application was a breeze and so was using the magnet, plus, I really liked this color on me and is perfect for fall. The Pure Ice fan page on Facebook is HERE (not sure if it's an official one or not, but worth checking out). Unfortunately I don't have info on this as to when it will be out or how much it will be (It may already be available in stores where you'd usually find Pure Ice products).
For a location near you or to purchase Pure Ice online, check out their website.

Sally Hansen: Magnetics- Swatches

I have the new Sally Hansen Magnetics for you today! Gotta say these are my favorite magnetics on the market so far. Let's get to the swatches and I'll tell you more about application tips:

Ionic Indigo: the perfect medium blue with that Sally Hansen Magnetic shimmer. Two coats and a top coat.
Golden Conduct: A warm gold with taupe effects and gold fleck/glitter, two coats no top coat.

Graphite Gravity: Black metallic with dark silver/gray effects. two coats, no top coat.

Kintetic Copper: The perfect copper with lighter copper effects and an orange shimmer/glitter, two coats and no top coat.

Polar Purple: A frosty/shimmery medium metallic purple with light purple effects, two coats, no top coat

Red-y Response: a magenta to wine effect, two coats, no top coat
Silver Elements: Light silver with dark silver effects, two coats, no top

These are my favorite magnetics for a few reasons: the effect is extremely pronounced, the formula is smooth, removal is not like a glitter polish, they dry quick so you can top coat.  A few tips of application... if your nail is curved or wide like mine are, I paint every nail one coat first, let dry then I do one side of the nail, magnet it, then paint the other half, and magnet it.  I do it this way so you get the magnetic effect across the entire nail. If you don't line it up perfect, you get a seam down the middle but I don't mind it, adds interest :)  There is one that I didn't have to show you and it's the green one, but you can check it out on their site

AVAILABLE SHADES: Ionic Indigo, Red-y Response, Kinetic Copper, Silver Elements, Golden Conduct, Electric Emerald, Graphite Gravity, Polar Purple

WHAT IT COSTS: $9.99 each

WHERE TO FIND THEM: Drugstores nationwide

Gelish: Iron Princess (gel magnetic)

My family was in town recently and I did a gelish mani for my sister in law. I hadn't used Gelish Iron Princess so we gave it a go. Iron Princess is a magetic polish but you cure it because it's a gel. I must say, it does make it easier to do a magnetic mani because it doesn't dry until you cure it so I tended to get stronger lines than with a traditional polish that starts to dry once you apply it. For those not familiar with gel manis the special polish is cured under a UV light so it is hardened right away, there is no dry time, pretty convenient. I like the way this turned out, I used China Glaze's magnet instead of the wavy one that it came with because of a smaller nail bed (I wanted her to be able to see a full effect instead of just one wave or so). Overall not a bad mani, I may do this one on myself when it starts to get cooler for fall.
Harmony Gelish: Iron Princess can be purchased from Nail Etc.

Pretty Woman: Mauve Magnetic Polish

This is a random polish I picked up from Rite Aid, it's Pretty Woman and it's a Magnetic polish. (no color name on it). It's a purple shimmery polish and it came with two magnets, a squiggle and a diagonal line. These are the most strange magnets I have come across, they are housed in a silicone shell with the little rivet cut out on the sides and are flexible. I hate these magnets for a few reasons: 1) you cannot get your nail close enough to the magnet for it to really work well 2) with it being flexible, it is harder to hold the magnet still 3) the lip on the housing should be lower profile and not have notches cut out so you can turn the design a different way. What I ended up doing was pulling the housing back and trying to use it that way but again, it's flexible and I couldn't hold it still enough. I also did a star magnet with the polish to see how it responds to a stronger magnet. (not bad, I was just off center).  This polish was $8 and not too sucky. I would recommend cutting the lip of the housing so you can get the magnet closer because it does work and the squiggly lines are pretty cool.

NEWS: I have added two different Easter nail decals to my Etsy shop, I can make whatever design you'd like at no extra charge, check them out HERE!

Claire's: Dark Pink (magnetic glitter)

Here's another magnetic polish and a new brand to the blog: Claire's. I couldn't find a name on this polish but on the website it says "dark pink" so we'll go with that. This was one coat and the magnet for this brand is quite different than what I'm used to, but very creative. The magnet has two designs on it, a wavy and a chevron. I did the wavy on all but my ring finger where I did the chevron (sideways). Overall this polish isn't that bad and it is a bit different than other magnetics because it has the glitter in it. The cap comes off the handle of the polish so your polish won't dry out while you hold the magnet. You can look/puchase these polishes HERE and they're buy one, get one half off.

China Glaze: Drawn To You (Magnetix)

Usually I'm stoked about magnetic polish... I've used Layla, China Glaze and a few others I have yet to show you.  Now while I like the color of Drawn to You, I don't feel the magnetic effect is as awesome as Cling On. I used two coats; a base then a thin layer to do the magnet effects with. I found that worked best. I need a little more practice with this color I think but overall it is not horrible. This is without a top coat.... great color, temperamental magnet. I have some make up posts coming up for you this week, including the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette and new Milani goodies!

China Glaze: Cling On (Magnetix)

Today I have another Magnetix for you from China Glaze, Cling On. It's an olive green that is pretty thin. I used a base coat of it first, then a thin coat to do the magnet effects.  I found this worked best to get the most crisp designs. You can see the chevron design went pretty well but the middle and index fingers are by far the best I've ever done with the China Glaze magnet. You can see on my little finger where I had the magnet edge pressed (haha). I found a trick with it to work better is to scoot the magnet back a bit. Normally I'd put it on just above my cuticle but a bit further back seems to get your nail more in the middle of the magnet. The magnet itself doesn't seem as strong as Layla or LCD's magnets but work with it a while and it seems pretty good for it's price. I have one more to show you tomorrow, hope you're not sick of magnetics already :)

China Glaze: Attraction (Magnetix)

I've had a few of the China Glaze Magnetix for a while now but hadn't got around to swatching them. This one is a charcoal gray/black shimmery base and the magnet I used was the China Glaze one (more on that later). I was talking with Sarah from Samarium's Swatches and we decided to add some holo to our magnetics. I was running low on Spectra Flair but I added some in the polish but it wasn't showing up on camera (top picture) so I added the SF top coat (I had put spectra flair in a suspension base so it never gloops together). You couls see the holo alot better with just one coat. It was still much more holo in person but you get the idea. I think this is a great idea to do with the magnetics. The formula on these are ok, they're a bit tricky. I thin it would be best to do a base of black or gray then a thin coat of the magnet polish. I seemed to have had better results with a thinner coat of polish. This one was two coats of Attraction (show you the one coat method later).
My giveaway has ended and I've announced the winners on my FB page, they've all been notified :)

Layla: Magnetic Polish #7

If you are friends with me on Facebook you would have seen a preview of this post. The second Layla magnetic polish I got was #7 Metallic Sky. My friend was awesome and gave me her back up star magnet so I wanted to play around with it. On my index finger, the star is centered. On the middle finger the star is beaming down from the top. My ring finger has the normal lines from using the Layla magnet on the bottle and my little finger got a little confused. I think I turned the magnet and didn't realize that I was close enough to my nail where it would make a difference. I put one coat of Essie Bobbing for Baubles the one coat of Metallic Sky (this will make your little bottle last much longer).  I'm still trying to get the hang of magnetic polishes but I'd say this try wasn't too shabby.

Layla: Magnetic Polish- Purple

I have another new polish to the blog for you today: Layla Magnetic. This one is #5 and it is a deep vampy purple. The Layla bottles have the magnet on top and design in line shape, so you have to be creative in order to get a few stripes across your nails. You can see on my index finger there is only one line because I turned he magnet to a 12 to 6 position rather than a 10 to 4 (think a clock). This was my first real attempt with it and it's a little tricky to do but I think with some practice it will be worth it. I picked this up at a beauty supply store and the bottles are small so to make it last, I put Essie Sexy Divide under it and then just did one coat of the Layla.  It's quite cool in person because the lines look 3D.  I have another one to try out and with a magnet that creates a different design so that will be posted soon :)
