Halloween Kitties that Glow

JORD wood watches gift card giveaway HERE!
Halloween time Monkeys! I'm not sure when purple became a standard Halloween color, but it's a bandwagon I was more than happy to jump on. I used two coats of Milani Imperial Purple then stamped black Halloween cats on 2 fingers only. I wanted to show off SinfulColors Splatter Spell because it has some shredded glitter mingled with hexes and all orange and black, really fun glitter! I did one coat on my index and little finger and dabbed glitter around the stamped cats. Whenever I do a single image stamp that doesn't take up my whole nail, I like to add glitter in to make it pop and be more interesting. I also used SinfulColors glow in the dark top coat under a black light to show you it's pigment (I did this mani during the day so photos in the dark was not an option). I had to restamp the ring finger cat and ended up taking off some of the glow in the dark so you can see the difference, but for this purpose, I'm ok with it, plus it kind of looks like a moon or spooky clouds.

SinfulColors Pumpkin Spice and BM H06

JORD wood watches gift card giveaway HERE!
Halloween is so soon you guys! I thought I'd do a fun but simple mani for the occasion! I started with two coats of a white creme, one coat of Pumpkin Spice for that orange glitter factor. I then used stamped various scary pumpkins using the Bundle Monster  H06 plate. I love the way Pumpkin Spice adds to the theme without it being a solid orange. Pretty simple but still festive!

SinfulColors: Silk + Satin & Full Throttle- swatches

I have some random swatches for you today from SinfulColors Silk+Satin and Full Throttle Collections! These are available now in Walgreens for around $1.99. More info at the bottom of the post, enjoy!
A bright orange micro textured polish that dries to the rubbery finish as promised, 2 coats.
A deep raspberry red with the micro texture and great rubber finish, 2 coats.
A bright red, 2 coats of the micro texture and you're good to go!

This collection was super pigmented and easy to apply. The texture is so fine gritted that it applies like a creme but finishes like a rubber... not too matte, not too glossy. It's pretty cool!

An electric blue that dries pretty matte but is not fully opaque at 3 coats.
A matte silver that sparkles like crazy and not opaque after 3 coats.
After 2 generous coats, this cremey yellow was opaque but no easier to apply than any other stereotypical yellow creme. The finish is that great rubber matte though.

I definitely enjoyed the Full Throttle collection more because of it's uniqueness and quick drying, but if you have patience and like more sheer polishes, you'll enjoy the Silk + Satin.

Guest Post: The Little Canvas! (MONKEYS!!)

Hi everyone!  Alaina from The Little Canvas here taking over The Manicured Monkey for the day!  I couldn't be happier to be posting for Kristin today!   Back in 2012, she featured my work over here on The Manicured Monkey along with a little interview about me.  Since I was a little fish in the blogging pond at the time, it meant so much to me that she wanted to feature my work!

Through my blogging years, I have gotten to know Kristin through Twitter.  Her support of me and my blog has meant the world to me.  Most recently, she inspired me to create my St. Patrick’s Day Nail Art Wheel, which she shared on Pinterest and it got a zillion re-pins.  Okay, maybe not a zillion, but it sure got shared a lot.

For today’s post, I wanted to do something special, fun, and unique.  Since Spring is here, I debated on doing some sort of floral manicure.  Then I thought about doing a kitchen sink manicure with some tape, gradients, and dots.  Both ideas, while awesome, I was a tad bored by.  Then it hit me….The Manicured Monkey…..monkey nail art!

Let’s take a look!
 Colors Used:
¨         Base
o       Sinful Colors – Pistache
¨         Banana Nails
o       Orly Instant Artist – White & Black
o       Ulta – SunSational
¨         Monkey
o       Zoya – Louise
o       Zoya – Taylor
o       Orly Instant Artist – White & Black

Cute, right?!  I am in love with how they turned out!  They are just as I imagined.  I picked Sinful Colors Pistache for my base because it’s a perfect bright green polish.  I thought a little monkey would look beyond adorable on top of that color and I think it’s safe to say I was right.  The monkey perfectly popped off the base.

I decided to do white polka dots on the other nails since I recently figured out how to perfectly fit a dot on my nail.  It only took about two years and a lot of disasticures to figure it out.  Since this discovery, I’ve been kind of obsessed with polka dots.  I decided was a little bored by just the plain dots, so I decided to add the little bananas.  They aren’t perfect, but that’s what makes them cute!

What do you think?  Think Kristin will enjoy the monkey manicure? :)

Thank you so much Kristin for letting me come back and post over here on your amazing blog!  If any of Kristin’s lovely followers would like to check out more of my work, please head on over to The Little Canvas and follow :).

Guest Post: Megan from Wicked Splatters!

Hi, This is Megan from Wicked Splatters! Kristin let us know she needed someone to guest post this week, and I was more than happy to oblige.
For this mani, I used polish to recreate a famous painting by Claude Monet, Sunflowers! I mixed the polish to create the range of colors needed, and got to work. Once I was done, I couldn't stop staring at my nails.

Weapons of Choice:
Ulta Blue Streak, Mint Condition and Limelight
Sinful Colors Chick Chick, Cloud 9, Ruby Ruby, Snow Me White, and Black on Black

Once again, Thanks Kristin for allowing me to guest post for you. Hope you have a great trip!

-Megan

Guest Post: Heather from Wicked Splatters!

Monkeys, I have a treat for you today, Heather from Wicked Splatters is on the blog! If you follow me on Facebook, you'd have seen me post about WS, they're very talented. Check it out, thanks Heather! (also, go Quakes and beat LA! hahaha)

Hello from the Heather, one of the girls from Wicked Splatters. I am so excited to guest post this week for our friend Kristin at The Manicured Monkey while she's on vacation.

In this nail art design, I featured everyone’s favorite monkey, Curious George!. I used acrylic paint over nail polish for the paint splatters and the details on George's face. Acrylic paint is great for nail art, and I use it frequently for my cartoon style.
Weapons of Choice: Sinful Colors Chick Chick and Snow Me White, Acrylic paint.

SinfulColors: Holiday Collection- Tinsel & Sheer Lustre Glitter Topcoat- swatches

Hi Monkeys, I have good stuff for you today. SinfulColors has some pretty wonderful toppers out now and I have a few of them to show you. First up is Silver Rainbows- a silver holographic glitter bar polish in a clear coat. This one leaves just the right amount of glitter on the nail, I did one coat, no need to dab. Also over black I chose Girl's Bestfriend. A clear base loaded with small pretty raspberry glitter with a few sparse blue glitters. This was one coat over black, so I bet two coats would make it opaque. Onto my white base, I put Spiked Ice, a shredded matte black glitter. I love this look, it has little pieces along with the regular bars and the contrast over white is a win for me. Top Me Off is another dense glitter but this time small blue, silver and holographic pieces in this one. I blurred the picture so you could see how they look at a quick glance. Top Me Off is incredibly sparkly plus the holo glitter in it makes it eye catching.
Overall, I'm impressed with these four from the Holiday Collection (out now) and SinfulColors are affordable and easy to find, so it's a polish line. To see the other colors, check out the original press release.

Winter Challenge: Toys- Santa Nails!

Hi Monkeys, I have something fun for you today... Santa nails! Today's theme for the challenge was 'toys', so I changed it up a bit and did a mani with  a nod to the man who delivers the toys.... These are probably one of the easiest and most seen Christmas nails on Pinterest. They are simple to do. You start with a great red base, I chose Sinfulcolors Red Eye, striped a black belt then dotted on a buckle using SinfulColors Gold Medal. Simple mani, very cute and no matter how unsteady your hand is, everyone will know that you are drawing Satna's belt buckle! Give it a try! Check out everyone else's after the jump!

Winter Challenge: Christmas Traditions- Ornaments!

Hi Monkeys, today's challenge theme is "Christmas Traditions" so I did tree ornaments! I tried out something new today.. my skills with a dotting tool. My ornament mani didn't quite turn out the way I had in my head but meh, I'll take it. I started with a base of Essie No Place Like Chrome which is an amazing silver foil (also great for stamping). I used Zoya Sookie and Holly with Milani Black swift to dot on ornaments. I made their "hats" a little too big but the idea is really cute! Be sure to go vote on my nail art giveaway to be entered to win prizes!

Winter Challenge: Holiday Colors- dotticure!

Hi Monkeys, for today's Winter Challenge I did a Christmasy dotticure. I started with a base of SinfulColors Gold Medal, matted, followed by Zoya Holly and Rekha as dots joined with Essie No Place Like Chrome for silver dots. I am really liking this mani because of the matted gold polish... amazing.  It's a simple nail art idea to do for the holidays and looks like you've spent more time on it than you have. Be sure to check out everyone else's manis after the jump!

Holly Mani: BM H04

Hi Monkeys, I have a Christmas inspired mani for you today. I started with a base of Zoya .
I then stamped using SinfulColors Gold Medal and the ornament and wreath images from Bundle Monster H03. I dabbed some Sooki on as holly berries. While I like the idea of this mani, the stamping completely gets lost on the dark background. If you look close enough, you will have no real problem noticing the holly part but it's pretty dark. Adding the holly berries helped a bit though. I do however, like the wreath in my little finger. Thoughts?

Winter Challenge: Winter Nature

Today's theme for the Winter Challenge is "winter nature". I re-created a pin from Pinterest. Thhis mani is similar, I know you've seen it if you browse Pinterest for nail art .. she's holding a Starbucks holiday cup....
I started with two coats of  SinfulColors Red Eye (love this red metallic shimmer), then painted white hills, a tree and dotted some snow using OPI Alpine Snow (how appropriate). I dotted the top of the tree with Gold Medal from SinfulColors (this one's amazing to stamp with) and highlighted some areas with my favorite silver glitter- Sally Hansen's Celeb City. Simple mani, cute contrast. Be sure to peek at everyone else's manis after the jump !
